News came in that United are in the market for a left-back. Alphonso Davies is one of those candidates but so is Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano has just come out and said that "United want to sign a new left-back for Amorim's system in 2025, it's already planned.

"The club is already assessing options with more than 3 candidates in list.

It only remains to be seen whether it’s gonna happen in January or summer window (most likely)."

Bayern & Germany have reported that while Davies is likely to stay at Bayern, "'the numbers have to be right.'

Manchester United's interest in Davies is getting more concrete with the numbers they're willing to offer being higher than Bayern's and Real Madrid's. Still no agreement reached with any club."

This is an area the club have identified as a position that needs improving or at least to bring in players that are reliable.

As we know with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, the pair had missed most of last season with the latter not being on the pitch for the first team since the end of the 22/23 campaign.

With Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 style in which he uses wingers as his wing-backs, both Davies and Kerkez seem to fit what he wants.

With Davies in particular, he does at times play on the left-wing for Bayern despite being a left-back. His creativity and speed going forward is exactly what we need down the flanks and while Shaw does provide some sort of a threat going forward and is solid defensively, he is unreliable.

Davies' ability to get up and down the pitch really well and quite quickly will mean that he will slot in perfectly into Amorim's team. He will also be a free agent in the summer giving MUFC more reason to go in for him.

Given how many outlets are reporting this news, it looks to be a position that United seriously want to improve as it seemed a little neglected before.

Final Thoughts

Admittedly, I've never been the biggest admirer of Davies'. I also thought that he was a good player that people over-hyped to a point he was Roberto Carlos reborn.

However, given his attributes and how Amorim wants to play, he could be the ideal signing for that left flank. The fact that he is as comfortable defending as he is going forward, we could get a two-in-one player.

He is another who is quite young (24) and is a prospect for the future. United under INEOS seem to be targeting players between the ages of 18 - 24 so that they know they can be at the club for the long term.

Although the links with Davies to Real Madrid have been around for quite a while, I'm no longer worried because we have INEOS and the Avengers of a football board. Madrid wanted Yoro yet look where he ended up.

Before when we were linked with these high-profile type players, I would laugh because I knew we wouldn't be able to do the deal, whether other clubs were in for them or not.

Now though, as I said, I'm quite relaxed about us in the transfer window. I actually feel quite confident that we can go and get deals like this done. I wouldn't be surprised if by next season, Davies was another Bayern player to join United.

Even Kerkez is a good shout because he has been doing a lot of good work at Bournemouth and has had quite a few admirers himself. Liverpool are also heavily interested in him showing that he has a lot of quality when clubs like that are looking at him.

The Serbian is another player who is in that age range of 18 - 24 as he is only just 21 and could be at the club for the long term.

Neither of them are particularly injury prone although Davies does pick up something that keeps him out of a few games at a time. His only real issue he had was in the 21/22 season where heart problems kept him out for 19 games and 84 days for club and country. Even if he were to get injured though, we have the likes of Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui and perhaps Tyrell Malacia and Harry Amass as well, who can come in and replace them.

I never mentioned Luke Shaw there because I do believe his time at the club will be over if we were to bring in either of Davies or Kerkez. We cannot be having so many left-backs and someone will have to be moved on. Shaw has been at the club for a decade and has proved to be unreliable even if he has the quality.

But as both Davies and Kerkez are relatively young and the fact that we've brought in so many young players under INEOS, it makes me think why did we give Amorim a contract of just two-and-a-half years? That isn't long term at all. Really confusing.

But I would be happy with either of Davies or Kerkez joining United even if only in the summer.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
