Casemiro to Galatasaray?!

Good deal or not?

Considering his performance where he thought he was playing for Liverpool on Sunday, most would think this is a stupid thought.

However, given our lack of numbers in the holding midfielder department, letting Casemiro go would NOT be advised.

Reports came out today linking the Brazilian to Galatasaray on a loan deal. The Turkish transfer window only closes on 13 September meaning there is still 9 days remaining.

Rob Dawson of ESPN says that the Turkish giants "want a midfielder before their transfer window closes" and have identified Casemiro is a potential candidate. The problem is the Brazilian's high wages of a reported £350k-a-week salary which is seen as a "stumbling block" in this potential deal.

Dawson also says that United would consider a deal but only if they receive the correct offer but thanks to his wages, that is seen as a barrier in getting him to Turkey.

The CDM still has two years left on his current MUFC deal. This potential loan to Galatasaray would also depend on "whether United are willing to continue covering part of his salary."

Gala completed a similar deal after securing Victor Osimhen's signature for a season-long loan from Napoli as his wage demands were the issue as to why buying him outright was impossible.

Now though, Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail reports that Casemiro is determined to stay and fight for his place. After having been left out of Brazil's squad for their World Cup qualifiers and also having seen Manuel Ugarte join United, Casemiro's place in the side is even more under threat.

Wheeler also says that Casemiro has no intentions of going to Turkey although perhaps Galatasaray's inability to cover his £350k-a-week wages had something to do with it as well.

Final Thoughts

Whether this deal was/is plausible or not, I don't think letting go of Casemiro is a good idea, at least not this season.

As I mentioned earlier, we only have two CDMs at United and with the way Casemiro is performing, we only have one, Manuel Ugarte.

As he is a new signings and hasn't played for the club yet, it is unknown whether he will be a success at MUFC or not. The pressure on this player to perform straight away is immense (and unfair tbh) as if he fails, what then?

Casemiro is the only other holding midfielder option. Regardless of his performances, it's better to have the option than not. He also has the experience and winning mentality that none of our other players have. He is a senior member of the squad as well. Attributes like those are valuable in any team.

Of course there is still young Toby Collyer but do we really want to be putting a lot of pressure on him at just 20? Sure he could come in and hit the ground running much like Kobbie Mainoo last season but what if he doesn't?

We cannot afford to be taking risks with youngsters who aren't guaranteed to work out no matter how good they may appear.

There will come a point when Ugarte will need rest and rotation which is where squad depth comes in. Casemiro and Collyer will be key in these circumstances. I think the Brazilian still has a part to play at United. Hopefully it's for MUFC and not any other team.

Wanting to fight for his place is a good thing but I do believe that circumstances such as not being able to find a club or one that can cover his wages may have helped Casemiro make this decision.

Hopefully with not making the Brazil squad again and having serious competition for his place (something that hasn't happened to him since joining United two years ago), will give him the kick up his backside to showcase the form he displayed in his first campaign at Old Trafford.

We need it.

Would you be ok with letting Casemiro go this window or not?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
