Let me make this clear, by 'does he have enough time' I mean that whether his contract of just 2-and-a-half years is long enough for Amorim to make the necessary changes to see United back at the top of football under the him, and NOT whether the club will look to sack him at some point, although I'm sure that should things continue as they are, that will be a possibility, something that the manager says he 'likes' in terms of that constant pressure as MUFC boss.
That was a long intro but just needed to clear it up before people start getting the wrong impression.
But as his contract ends in June 2027, I thought that it was a bit short when I first saw it considering how much shit there is to sort out at the club.
Given how terribly things have gone since he came in two months ago, that 2-and-a-half years is looking shorter by the day.
I know that gone are the days where managers stay for years on end and in fact, even if they have a long contract, a lot of them get sacked around the 2-3 year mark anyway. All of our previous managers have.
But as Amorim is new (ish) co-owners INEOS' guy, surely they will want to give him as much of what he needs (including time) to get the club back to where it belongs under the 39-year-old? Surely they will want to make their guy the guy as should things go wrong with Amorim, a lot of people will ask the question as to why they got rid of Erik ten Hag only to then sack Amorim not long into him becoming manager.
INEOS will want to get it right straight away and show that they are the right people.
However, while we all may have expected a difficult start to life at Old Trafford for the new boss, no one could've expected it to be this bad. Even Amorim himself admitted as much to ex-captain Gary Neville post the Newcastle defeat.
Amorim's record thus far at United reads:
Ain't looking good brev, is it?
That is not entirely the manager's fault. Admittedly, he has made mistakes but he is still relatively new in the job and he's learning about United as much as United are learning about him.
However, several of those players have been at MUFC for a long time. They should be doing a hell of a lot better because while it may take time to understand a completely new system, it cannot take this long.
14th in the table, the football is crap, players look like they don't care, we've got issues off the field and out of our entire squad of 29 players, I can see just a handful as part of the future: Amad, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Ugarte, Mainoo and Yoro although it remains to be seen on those last two but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
But just FOUR who are pretty much guaranteed out of 29 players. That is absolutely dreadful.
How can we expect a manager, any manager, to come in and change things straight away when he has that shower of shite to work with? It's a nigh on impossible task with this group of players which is why the club and INEOS specifically, have to back Amorim in whatever decisions he makes as well as in the transfer market.
The January window is now open and while there is a lot of talk about incomings and outgoings, nothing concrete has happened. Amorim also said that incmomings will be determined by the amount of outgoings, if there are any.
The fact that we are in this position of uncertainty over whether we will bring in players in our worst period in a long, long time (which is saying something given the past decade), tells you all about where we are as a club. Most other clubs will be looking to do business in whatever way in order to get them into a better position.
If we want to be a big club, we're going to have to make hard decisions and find way of improving us. Could you imagine Real Madrid in this sort of position? No, no you can't because they never are.
Even in a period where they aren't at their absolute best, they still manage to do business, they still manage to compete and they still manage to win the big trophies.
That is how it's done.
People question INEOS and whether they are the correct fit for United after they've already made some decisions that certainly didn't go down well with the fans.
The cost-cutting maybe necessary but how and to whom they are doing it to is where the anger comes in.
To be reducing Christmas bonuses from £100 to £40, canceling charity events and sacking 200+ members of staff, is not something they want to be doing if they want to get the fans onside.
What would really get us onside is to get rid of some of those players. Do that, and you will be saving a hell of a lot more money than by canceling charity events.
There is more of a chance that Marcus Rashford leaves than stays this January even though there is a report from Chris Wheeler that he "is waiting for a recall from Ruben Amorim and will give 100 per cent to the team." That seems unlikely given his limited game time in the past few weeks as Rashford hasn't played since the 2-1 win at Viktoria Plzen on 12 December.
But if INEOS were to remove a player like him, one that is quite divisive among the fan base despite him being Manchester born and bred, would go a long way into getting in some of the money needed to sign players as well as help with reducing those cost-cutting affairs.
Rashford's wages alone will save United around £60m as his contract ends in June 2028. This is on top of the asking price of £40m set for the forward.
Casemiro is another on this transfer list and it is pretty much the same situation with him in terms of the wages. Antony, Eriksen and Lindelof are also available to leave this month.
That is the type of stuff that could get us on board with INEOS.
This will help Amorim remove those he deems not good enough to play for him as all five of these players haven't featured much under the Portuguese suggesting that he doesn't see them as part of his future. This gives him the opportunity to sign one or two that will improve the team and give us a better chance of achieving whatever goals the club have set during this second half of the season.
Some reports have even suggested that United could do some sort of swap deal with Napoli for Victor Osimhen with Rashford going the other way [mufcMPB]. We've already had good dealings with Napoli after the transfer of Scott McTominay whom the Italian side seem very happy with. This could help us a little in a potential transfer for Osimhen.
United are in need of an out-and-out goal scorer and the Nigerian will certainly provide that. He is one of the top strikers in Europe and is currently at Galatasaray on loan until the end of the season.
We've also been linked with Nuno Mendes of PSG who apparently 'wants to join United' and has rejected a new contract offer from PSG. He is another player we could bring in. Amorim knows Mendes well as the pair worked together at Sporting.
Mendes is a left-back/left wing-back. That is an area United need strengthening in more than others as we don't have ANYONE in that position. As per Jamie Carragher's excellent analysis on Monday Night Football, we can see just how much a player like Dalot as LB/LWB hinders the team as he doesn't know how to play that position. Someone like Mendes will certainly give us what we need in that left wing-back spot.
Two players of that quality will most definitely help us moving forward.
So should INEOS want Amorim to be the guy, they are going to have to start backing him sooner rather than later because prolonging that backing now will only make things harder in the future. This will also mean that it will take longer for United to improve if they don't start doing business immediately.
2-and-a-half years then. You reckon Amorim will have enough time to sort things out and be the manager to get us back to winning ways? Do you see him getting sacked at some point before then? Or could he be the man before the man?
