Looks likely

The Athletic and David Ornstein have dropped in the last hour that "Manchester United working on deal to appoint Ruben Amorim as head coach. United ready to pay €10m release clause and in talks with Sporting to finalize. 39-year-old Portuguese open to accepting move."

Ben Jacobs reported just a few minutes later that "Ruben Amorim has verbally agreed to become the new Manchester United manager. Sources in Portugal say Amorim has already said yes to United."

Final Thoughts

Very interesting from the club and very quick from INEOS. They aren't wasting any time in trying to find a ten Hag replacement as this news has moved pretty quickly.

Ruben Amorim was a manager I always saw as one that was going to City. I think they were/are his favorite to replace Pep if he leaves at the end of the season which is why I think INEOS needed to move fast on Amorim if they wanted to get him.

That's exactly what they're doing.

But I feel like his style just doesn't suit us. Or, and this is probably the thing, we don't have players who suit him.

Similar to ten Hag, our squad just can't play like a lot of the modern teams and modern managers and that a more pragmatic, boring and simplistic style is all they can do.

Amorim isn't that type and has the style that is better suited for a club like City which is why they want him.

The Portuguese's style is also a change of formation as he prefers three at the back, with wing-backs, two number 10s and an out-and-out goal scorer. That is not something that we're used to at United.

But as our squad isn't capable of that style, will he be a success?

I feel that with Amorim, he is the ten Hag of today. The two are very similar both in style and what they're all about: both play a very possession-based game, high octane, modern brand; both young and up-and-coming; they're the hipster manager of this day; and are wanted by many clubs.

I like the fact that United are looking for another ten Hag-type manager in terms of that style and principles. This suggests that INEOS have a clear identity of how they want United to play. It also says that even if the players can't play as he wants, the club are saying either you get good or you get out.

That's more like it 👍.

But as he is quite similar to ten Hag, will he be as stubborn as the Dutchman? Will he continue to have his favorites and be reluctant to bench them? Will he have to use certain players? Can he get rid of players? Will they back him?

These are all relevant questions to ask because they were the same for ten Hag and all the previous managers. Those coaches weren't necessarily given all the tools all the time and it was a reason as to why they failed.

We cannot do that again.

This can be something that INEOS uses to improve for the future so as to avoid these mistakes of the past. As Amorim looks highly likely to be the new manager, they won't want to get it wrong or not give Amorim all he needs to be successful. INEOS will want to make it a success straight away and start off on the right foot.

But it looks like Ruben Amorim is set to take over from Erik ten Hag, just like that.

Who'd have thought that a day ago after missing open goals and what not, that we would've sacked ten Hag and potential have his replacement.

Football moves fast even if it is a little disrespectful to Erik ten Hag.

What do you think about Ruben Amorim as the next MUFC manager?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
