Ruben Amorim picked up his first point in three games after his United side had to come back from 2 goals down to salvage a draw in their final-ever visit to Goodison Park.

While that may sound like a throwback to the good old days where we used to make these sorts of comebacks with ease (and with the game), it really wasn't.

MUFC were utterly shite.

So pretty much like the United we've been seeing for quite some time.

‍

The starting XI from the manager was perhaps as strong as it could've been although the inclusion of Casemiro was a bit surprising. This also meant that Garnacho had to be content with a place on the bench. That at least gave us an option from it and boy, did we need it.

Much like previous matches, an all too familiar pattern took place as United were slow and displayed a lack of desire, passion, energy and effort which was contrary to what we saw from the home side.

Everton were hungrier and wanted it more which was seen with the amount of turnovers they had, the high press they implemented, the amount of second balls won and just overall desire.

All of this paid off as the Toffees took the lead on 20 minutes as in-form striker Beto made it 1-0.

And surprise surprise, it came from a set-piece.

A corner that ended up causing a bit of pinball as United failed to clear the ball despite having 6, 7 or 8 attempts to do so. This lack of urgency and willingness to win the ball and clear it gave Everton the opportunity to make something happen, and that they did.

Another spectacularly poor goal to concede from Amorim's side which is in keeping with recent tradition.

‍

Things didn't get any better from there as Everton carried on on their merryway as they were all over the away team. While they didn't make many clear-cut chances, Moyes' side was clearly in the ascendancy.

Just 13 minutes after that opener, Doucoure makes it 2-0 after yet more defensive calamity from United.

A poor giveaway by Bruno as he played a bit of a hospital pass to Casemiro who was easily caught in possession which gave Everton the chance to be in on goal.

A simple ball was played in behind Maguire whose lack of pace truly showed allowing Beto to play a simple square ball from the edge of the box to Harrison. His shot was then palmed into the air by Onana who should've done better as the danger wasn't averted.

Between him and Maguire, neither showed enough guts to get the second ball as well which gave Doucore that easy header to double their lead.

2 goals down at halftime and looking like things were only going to get worse. United's first shot at goal came in the 41st minute πŸ˜‘.

That should tell you everything.

‍

Amorim weirdly decided against making changes at the break which was a little confusing given the poor first 45 display.

Luckily for us though, Everton seemed to take their foot off the gas which gave us more of an opportunity to get back in the game.

We eventually managed to get a shot on target in the 72nd minute which turned out to be a goal. A Bruno Fernandes free-kick into the bottom corner got United back in the game.

Scoring a direct free-kick is not something we see often.

United were no doubt playing with a bit more confidence from here on as that strike gave the team the lift they needed.

8 minutes later, it was 2-2!

‍

Manuel Ugarte with a beautiful finish after he controls the ball on his chest and then volleys it into the back of the net with his left-foot after a free-kick into the box wasn't properly cleared by Everton. They were watching too much United.

We we truly back in the game and with 10 minutes remaining, we had a decent chance of winning it.

The crazy thing about these 2 goals is that they were 2 of just 3 shots on target.

Efficiency, I guess 🀷.

‍

Try as United might though, they just couldn't get over the line despite being in promising positions.

However, it looked like we had thrown that hard work away as in injury time, Everton get given a penalty after what appeared to be a tug back by both De Ligt and Maguire on Ashley Young.

Upon a VAR review, the referee was told to go to the monitor and have a look. He then overturned his decision as Young gave us his best Michael Phelps impression as he dived to try and get his side the late penalty. This isn't something new with him either.

The game then ended but there was a bit of a spat that followed between both sets of players.

‍

Ruben Amorim will not have been happy with that performance. In fact he said post-match that "We didn't EXIST in the first half... at half time, I said - no matter what the result, we are going to do what we did in the week."

The boss obviously feeling that much more work needs to be done in training in order to improve these performances. It seems like that week off between matches allowing him that extra time to train hasn't been making much of a difference.

That first half in particular was some of the worst football we've seen but more than that, it was that lack of desire that was the most disappointing.

That is where perhaps the biggest change needs to be made, if it can be: the mentality.

Final Thoughts

We did get away with it. Everton were by far the better side and should've taken all 3 points which is why despite looking like we could win late on, I'm not disappointed we didn't get that victory.

I'm struggling to find the words though to describe this performance and team. It's almost as if we say the same things every week as it is the same issues that repeat themselves.

Let's just try to win against Ipswich.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
