What will we get this time?

I don't know. I don't even think Amorim knows at this point.

As much as the United boss can try, it appears fruitless in terms of trying to get his players to adapt to a system that they're clearly not good enough to play in to a point where apparently people within are calling for a change of approach.

After defeat to Spurs (for the third time this season), Ruben's Reds moved down into 15th with it looking highly unlikely that the TOP HALF will be achievable given the poor form.

Imagine that 😐.

Contrary to MUFC, a man who knew all about the club in David 'Moyseh' Moyes has seen a resurgence at one of his former clubs as Everton seem to be unstoppable under the Scotsman.

A final date at Goodison Park for United then. Should be intriguing.

‍

Predicted Lineup

‍

It's difficult to predict because I don't know if they'll all decide to get injured again but in the hopes that we do have some returnees, this is the side I believe the manager will go with.

‍

Onana behind a back three of De Ligt, Maguire and Mazraoui.

Dorgu was really good down the left and it allows Dalot to play on his preferred right although that doesn't seem to make a difference as he's shite.

Bruno and a returning Ugarte to be the midfield pairing with Garnacho, Zirkzee and Hojlund ahead of them.

I think this is the best team we can go with given the available options. With the likes of Eriksen and Yoro coming back after illness and surely one or two of our backup goalkeepers should return as well, United will have some experience on the bench.

‍

Approach

Again, who knows?

The match last weekend wasn't actually too bad from United as we did put in a bit of a performance, one that should've warranted at least a point.

There were some areas of our game that was on point especially Dorgu down the left. Not only did he provide that balance but he also gave Amorim exactly what he was looking for in a wing-back.

His game was simple and he kept making the overlapping runs we all want to see. Dalot can do the same on the right but we know that his form this season has taken a massive dip but hopefully being on his favored right flank he could perhaps find some form.

This also takes away from the whole inverted full-backs thing which definitely wasn't working.

‍

When you have a player in Garnacho who is an inverted winger/CAM who regularly wants to cut in, we need someone to make those runs beyond otherwise we will be too narrow.

Dorgu's left-foot and Dalot's right gives us the option to whip in crosses first time instead of having to turn back on their stronger foot and the chance disappearing. This also gives the strikers a better chance of getting on the end of them because they prefer the quicker delivery.

‍

The midfield is also key because Everton have a lot of power in there with the likes of Doucoure and Gueye. Bruno and Ugarte can give us a bit of physicality, energy, running power and with the captain, ability in possession. He can help create from deeper.

One of the main issues from the Spurs loss was the fact that we didn't track back when looking at the Maddision goal. Casemiro was too slow and Bruno was nowhere to be found despite the Spurs man being their player to mark.

Ugarte has been superb at this tracking back and helping out in defense. We need someone to be doing this because United can lack when it comes to stopping the cutbacks and balls to midfielders on the edge of the box.

‍

Another area that was a bit of a concern was that we didn't take our opportunities down the other end.

Garnacho and Zirkzee in particular had two great chances to score but failed to find the back of the net.

I suppose much like not so long ago, at least we created those chances. For a while now, we've been (rightfully) complaining about those lack of clear goal scoring opportunities which have resulted in these very boring and flat games.

There's been no goals scored in the last two and just 2 in the last four.

‍

We have to do better and we also need to score the first goal. It is always important in any football game and especially when concerning United.

We have scored just 9 goals in the first half of PL matches out of a total of 28. Our record when conceding first is dire as when letting in the first goal, we've gone on to lose all 12 which also happens to be the total number of losses we've had this season.

Concede first and we lose. While we have managed to come back and win matches (City, Southampton, Brentford), it is highly unlikely and two of those were at home.

‍

Form

United dropped down two spots into 15th thanks to that 1-0 loss at Spurs. That means that we are now just two defeats away from equaling last season's total tally of 14 losses in the entire 23/24 campaign.

Just two πŸ˜‘.

‍

The last five have been awful as we've won two while losing three, two of which were the last two.

The form table from match 17 until now doesn't make for good reading for United. We sit in 16th with just two wins, one draw and five losses.

Thank goodness for the likes of Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich because I really do think relegation would be a possibility.

‍

Away from home, the record isn't that much better as we are in 13th, our favorite position. We've only won one of our last four away games. 13 points is all United have mustered in 12 away matches with just three wins, four draws and five defeats. A goal difference of -2 isn't the worst in the league but it ain't great either.

Only Southampton on 10 have scored fewer on the road than us with 11.

Goodness me!

We really are a relegation form team, aren't we? 😩.

‍

Everton

As we know, the former United and former Everton boss David Moyes made a somewhat surprising return to Goodison not so long ago.

This appointment seems to have been the correct decision though as the Toffees are flying high in the league, at least in terms of their recent form.

Everton's run of four wins and one draw in their last five is only matched by title challengers Arsenal! That one draw was also a dramatic game in the last-ever Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.

Their form has been so good under Moyes that they've actually moved above United!

How the hell has that happened?!

‍

They are 14th in the table after 25 games with seven wins (one fewer than United), nine draws (four more than us) and nine losses (three fewer than Amorim's side) gives them a total of 30 points.

Everton's GD is also superior to United's as they sit on -4 whereas we're on -7.

Moyes' first game back was actually a defeat as they went down 1-0 at home to Villa. However, that has been their only defeat in six league matches under the 61-year-old.

‍

They've enjoyed impressive victories over the likes of Spurs and Brighton (wonder what that feels like 😐) as well as a late win over Palace in their last game.

At home though, it isn't great as the Toffees are in 13th in the home table. Their 13 matches have seen four wins, five draws and four losses giving them a total of 17 points. They don't score too many (18) but don't concede too many either (15) at Goodison Park which could mean a close game considering our goal record on the road.

‍

Recent Meetings

This is one of the more positive things to take for United as we've won all of the last five in the league and six in all comps.

Our last trip to Goodison saw Garnacho score a Puskas-winning goal.

One of Ruben Amorim's first victories at United was a 4-0 hiding of Everton in his third game in charge.

A Puskas goal and 4-0 win this time round will be nice as well πŸ‘.

‍

Prediction

However, I don't think that that will be the case.

With Everton's resurgence in form, welcoming back their legendary manager, our poor form, being useless away from home and not knowing whether we'll show up or not (and the fact that we could have injuries - you never know with United), I can see the Toffees getting a 2-1 win.

Yes, I'm going for another loss.

Hopefully we can build upon what we did at Spurs but with this United team, we cannot rely on them.

We can only rely on them to cock up.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
