We've all seen this clip and the quotes about Gary Neville and how he found it unprofessional of Casemiro and Rashford to go to America and watch a basketball game during their time off during this international break.
Neville says with the team "playing badly, are losing, 13th in the league, and there is a new manager coming - would you choose that trip as a break to recharge your batteries? That's not a recharging trip.
That's not right."
This is something that Neville asked Ian Wroght about during an episode of 'Stick to football' to which the Arsenal legend replied "I would [do the same]...it's my time."
Final Thoughts
I find this to be really silly tbh. There's absolutely nothing in this and it comes across as a person who's looking for problems where there are none. Moaning for moaning's sake.
I'm not sure what the fuss is all about with what players do during their spare time. As long as it's nothing too outrageous, traveling to another country to watch another sport isn't a bad thing even if the distance is far and could potentially have an impact on your performances.
To an extent, I get what Neville is saying but if Casemiro and Rashford were back on time for training (which they were) and were in good health and shape (which they appear to be), then what's the problem?
Rashford as he usually does, trains in his time off, something that we know because he puts it on his socials. Even that seems to annoy people. The guy can't do anything without scrutiny.
Casemiro is also one of the fitter players in the squad and is available almost every game even if his legs are gone.
These players are also used to traveling a lot before having to be back in time for training at home. They would've gotten used to this over so many years.
It was nice to hear Ian Wright say he would've done the same. Not everyone lives their life like Gary Neville. I know that he is (and has been) quite disciplined throughout his life but he does come off as a little boring. You are allowed to enjoy yourself every now and then otherwise, what's the point in living?
This from Gary, is not right.
