The *new* boss spoke some very telling words after his soon-to-be old side Sporting's 5-1 win over Estrela last night.

Amorim was announced as the official head coach of United yesterday afternoon but will only take over on the 11th of November which will be during the international break.

So we will have to wait a little while before actually seeing him in the dugout but at least INEOS didn't waste any time in getting in Erik ten Hag's replacement.

But Amorim did comment for the first time since his official announcement.

There were several rumors linking him with the Man City job should Pep Guardiola leave the champions at the end of the season. This was also said to be the time when Amorim himself wanted to leave the club (which he actually confirmed when making these comments) which fueled the fire even more that he would take over at City.

The Cityzens also brought in Sporting Director Hugo Viana to replace Txiki Begiristain who will be departing the club come June.

What Amorim said in regards to proposals from other clubs was "Some people say I joined Man United for money. It's not. Other clubs were prepared to pay three times more and I refused...as this is the club I wanted: Man United."

He also said that United's offer was one of "now or never" and that he had "three days to make up his mind." He then proceeded to accept and that it was impossible to turn down.

Amorim also informed his board that whatever happens, this will be his last season as Sporting manager. Once United came in and paid the release clause, there was only one result from there. This is also where he requested that he would like to complete the season and then leave but as United said 'now or never', he obviously opted for the former.

"The only club that I wanted and that move me." He's speaking about United here.

He also mentions how there was no Sporting fan who wanted him to stay at the club more than himself and that it was a tough decision but one that he had to make considering this [United] was the club he wanted.

Amorim adds that he is bringing his coaching staff along with him which was one of the conditions for him coming to United. "They're absolutely key for me."

He also says that he can "do things my way" when talking about United's struggles and it being "exactly the context I wanted."

Final Thoughts

There are only a handful of clubs that could pay three times more than United. Who that is, you can make up you own mind but this further indicates that all he wanted was United.

People will say that he's just playing the game and that he's saying what needs to be said but as he wanted to stay until the end of the season, it would've been easy for him to do so, then go to a club like City and earn three times more. Again, I'm not sure who these clubs were but by looking at who can pay such amounts, there are only a certain few.

I'm liking that he said United were the only club for him and the fact that he turned down three times more money just makes it more special.

I understand that it is obviously a tough decision but when United come calling, you answer. There has also been a lot of positivity from Sporting fans about how they are happy for him and want him to do well and so on, so that is obviously great. No bad blood at all.

I'm sure they'll understand even more when he said that he wanted to stay until the end of the season but that if he wanted to become MUFC manager, he had to accept now.

This also indicates just how much INEOS mean business as previously, United would very rarely go and get who they wanted regardless of their situation. Giving Amorim an ultimatum also says to me that they weren't willing to wait for him and that if he refused, they would've moved on. I believe they had their next target lined up had Amorim said no to this offer.

Bringing in his coaches also makes sense. There's no point bringing in a new manager only for him to have to work with the current ones at United. They won't understand how he plays and Amorim will have to go on and explain to them what he wants, which could take time.

Like this, it's straight to work to try and get the players doing what he wants, which again, is a reason as to why he wanted the job.

Doing things his way is exactly what I want him to do as well. What I disliked about ten Hag was that he never played his style or at least tried his hardest to implement it. It was always adapting to the players rather than them adapting to the manager.

Amorim needs to come in and do his thing which will help us see which players are capable of playing 'Amorim ball' and who aren't. In this way, it will make it easier to remove them.

He probably looks at the issues at United as a challenge and believes that he can sort them out, which is what all managers believe and it is better that they do. It shows their confident that they will be the man.

In general, I also like how well Amorim speaks both in terms of his interviews/press conferences as well as his grasp of the English language.

Another mark down for ten Hag for me was his inability to communicate properly. I understand that English isn't his mother tongue, but as you're in England, perhaps he should've tried to better his skills of the language. This would have made the communication better.

All in all, really happy with Amorim and his first words as manager. It gives me more confidence and encouragement that we may finally have the man.

What did you make of Ruben Amorim's first words as official United boss?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
