Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho's futures

What's the story?

Well this sort of came out of the blue.

Mainoo is not one of United's more 'flashy' players shall we say. He isn't the type to draw a lot of attention to himself other than due to his performances on the field, of which is usually pretty darn good.

And that is the reason as to why we've gotten this news that apparently, there's been talks between Mainoo's agent and Chelsea 😳!

But, those talks aren't anything serious and United are working on trying to secure a new contract for the 19-year-old who would prefer to remain in Manchester, via The United Stand.

But Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail has also been dropping news about the star boy. He says that "United have reached a stalemate in contract talks with Mainoo’s representatives, alerting Europe’s top clubs to the fact he could be sold this month or at the end of the season."

He adds that Chelsea are the club that are leading the race for his signature should he leave.

The Article also mentions that Mainoo "is also believed to be concerned over the direction of the club and his chances of playing Champions League football, with Ruben Amorim’s side currently in 13th place in the Premier League table."

Due to profit and sustainability rules, United are looking to sell the likes of Marcus Rashford and potentially Alejandro Garnacho, whom the club would rather let go off than Mainoo, according to this article.

Just two players are considered unsellable at MUFC and that is Amad - who is close to agreeing a new deal, and new recruit Leny Yoro whom the club invested £59m on in the summer.

Wheeler also says that Mainoo wants a wage close to £200k-a-week in a new deal, should he be offered one.

Mainoo does have a contract that lasts until June 2027 with the option of a further year and is a contract that he signed 2 years ago.

*Update*

We’ve seen what news there is regarding Mainoo and David Ornstein dropped some more news regarding his future as well as that of fellow academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho.

Ornstein: “Manchester United will reluctantly consider sale of homegrown talents like Kobbie Mainoo + Alejandro Garnacho to help comply with financial rules . #MUFC not actively looking to trade pair but neither untouchable if suitable offers arrive.”

Final Thoughts

Not news I was expecting to hear today if I'm honest. We already had the usual transfer news but this like I said, is out of nowhere.

Kobbie Mainoo CANNOT leave. He simply CANNOT.

And we cannot let him go to a rival like Chelsea of all teams. If he does go (whenever that is), I'd rather he goes abroad and play for Madrid or Barca which is where he could end up given his quality. I think there were rumors in the recent past that one or both of the Spanish giants were looking at him, which shows what a top player he is.

It's very contradictory news when you look at it. One saying that the talks with Chelsea isn't too serious while if you just read the other, you might be slightly concerned that we could be losing Mainoo to the Blues.

I have a gut feeling that this is much ado about nothing. I don't see Mainoo EVER leaving United as he appears one of those players such as Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs who played for us their entire careers. They too were from the academy.

The frustrations that maybe there from Mainoo about not being in the Champions League and wanting a higher wage is understandable (especially when looking at the wages we give players who are nowhere near as good as Kobbie) and that he would like to play in the best competition regularly.

But when looking at the personality and character of the lad, he doesn't seem to be one who is money-driven and will turn his back on the club if he doesn't get what he wants.

Mainoo looks to have his feet on the ground and is quite humble. As I said, he isn't one of the more flashy players as he is very rarely in the limelight for anything other than his football.

In terms of those 'unsellables', I do like the fact that almost the entire squad is on the axing list as we do have to remove a lot of shite and it also keeps the players on their toes, but one who should certainly be on that unsellable list is Mainoo.

He is the one player that I look at and think he is absolutely perfect under Amorim and for the future of this club. The maturity in his game and character also suggests to me that he could be a future captain. The way the rest of the squad talk about him and his footballing ability also tells you that there is something special about this boy.

I wouldn't sell him. AT ALL!

If we do happen to let him go, it better be because he did all he could at the club and he would like to try something new. But if not for this reason...😡.

As for all this new news from Ornstein,

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS ALL ABOUT?!

‘Reluctantly consider sale of Mainoo and Garnacho.’ Two of our best players and two players who are exactly what this club is all about.

Potentially selling them because of financial rules is absolutely no-no. If this was the case with INEOS, then why the bloody hell did you buy the club in the first place?

If you knew you didn’t have the money which clearly you don’t when looking at the sacking of staff, canceling Christmas parties, increasing ticket prices and so on, you should’ve instead stepped aside and let someone take over the club who wouldn’t have these financial issues.

There could be many reasons as to why they put this out there but to me, the major reason is that should an offer come in that they can’t refuse, they will take it.

Say Barcelona offer £90m for Mainoo, I believe the club will sell him.

That’s what I believe putting this out there is all about.

I know that we’re in a sell to buy situation and we have untouchable players, but these two especially Mainoo shouldn’t be one to sell. Garnacho is slightly different because he hasn’t been at his best since Amorim has come in, isn’t in the team as much and it’s difficult to see where he fits in with this system , yet even still, there are soooooooo many others that we HAVE to remove first. This will generate some of the funds we need.

Selling these two lads goes against who we are as a club. United have been all about the youth from pretty much the beginning.

Looking to see Mainoo and Garnacho is a terrible idea. Imagine trying to move on Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, the Nevilles or David Beckham when they just came to the first team at 19 or 20. This is what that is.

I know that Rashford is the same but he has been in the first team a lot longer and has been poor besides. Mainoo and Garnacho still have a place in this side with Mainoo in particular being so important to Amorim's setup.

We already know that INEOS have made several unpopular decisions but letting go of Mainoo and/or Garnacho will take the cake.

If they were to do this,

WE RIOT!

What do you think about all this Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho stuff?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
