Man Utd's transfer deadline day

Good or not?

I gotta say, it wasn't that bad.

I know we didn't actually buy anyone yesterday despite a couple of official announcements but as many suspected, those were sort of United's way of saying 'we brought in players on deadline day.'

In terms of outgoings, not surprising as well.

When looking at the incomings though, very quiet from MUFC but we did get the official announcement of young midfielder Sekou Kone from Mali joining from Guidars FC. United have said that 18-year-old will begin his career in the academy to help him settle in at the club.

And the announcement we've all waited for (since 25 years ago, it feels like) was Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan himself has waited a long time for this official announcement as he agreed personal terms back in mid-July. All the news pointed to him only wanting United but he's had to wait until basically the last minute to be a Red.

United announced the deal at 21:30 BST on deadline deal even though we had the 'Here we go' at the start of the week and his medical being done on Wednesday. So we've pretty much known that he's a United player for a while.

Outgoings

Scott McTominay is a player we've known for a while that he is to depart MUFC. His 'Here we go' to Napoli also came earlier in the week and much like Ugarte, McTominay's official departure was announced on deadline day.

There were shots of him arriving at the airport in Italy surrounded by crowds of fans which shows just how excited the Napoli supporters are about 'Scotty.'

I was never a big fan of McTominay's. Don't think he had the quality needed to be a United player or the type to take us to where we want to be. It is a pity because he does tick all the other boxes needed to be a United player mainly in attitude.

He did score some really important and brilliant goals for the club most notably his double against Brentford last season. He was also a player that everyone got along really well with so he was a great character in the dressing room, which is always welcome.

I just can't believe he's actually gone. I always saw him as a player who'll stay at United (or at least England) all his career. He doesn't seem the type to go to Italy so fair play to him.

'Scotty' played 255 games for United after making his debut in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. He scored 29 times and assisted on 8 occasions. He spent his entire career at United (until this point) with his total time racking up to 22 years at the club. He joined before Wayne Rooney!

I wish Scotty the best. I hope he does well in Naples with former Red Romelu Lukaku and the ex-Chelsea and Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

The biggest 'surprise' if you want to call it that was a 'Here we go' for Jadon Sancho to Chelsea. I don't think it's too shocking given all the rumors and reports about him potentially moving to the Blues.

After Juventus pulled out of the Sancho race there was only one other club in for him and that is the club he supported as a boy.

Fabrizio Romano says that it will be a loan deal with an obligation to buy. This means that when Chelsea face United, Sancho won't be able to play United as we are his parent club. This type of deal helps clubs comply with FFP rules which is why both United and Chelsea have agreed on these terms.

I've always said of Sancho that he's a top player with all the abilities to play in a ten Hag system. But as with life, if the attitude is off, one will fail.

Should Sancho go to Chelsea, his time at Old Trafford will be seen as a failure. The way it's ending isn't on the best of terms which isn't what you want when a player leaves.

Other than his goal against Liverpool two seasons ago he hasn't made too many good memories. Many will remember him as the player who had two separate long periods of absence, bad attitude and wasting his talent at United.

I don't understand why Chelsea want him given such issues and the fact that they have about 29 wingers. It makes no sense but at least we won't have a problematic player in the squad.

Final Thoughts

Not the most exciting of deadline days nor were there too many surprises (if any). I did expect something in terms of incomings but nothing major.

What we did get though, is nothing too shocking tbh.

What did you think about deadline day?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
