Napoli make bid for Garnacho

‍But do they really?

£38m. £38m is the bid.

😂.

I don't want to sound like the now former Southampton manager Russell Martin but he said that "I'm not sure you'll get his left foot for that" in regards to United apparently looking to offer the Saints £21m for midfielder Tyler Dibling.

£38m for Garnacho?

C'mon guys 😐.

You wouldn't get his left nut for that.

This is coming from Alfredo Pedulla as he says that Napoli have offered £38m including add ons for Garnacho. However, that falls well short of the £60m+ valuation United have set for the forward.

Napoli aren't the only side interested in the 20-year-old as the Old Lady Juventus may get into the race for his signature but more in the summer rather than January, according to Pedulla.

It is said that Antonio Conte sees Garnacho as an ideal replacement for the soon-to-be departing Kvicha Kvaratsheklia. That left-wing position will be vacant and as that is Garnacho's preferred spot, it could be tempting for him to join former teammate Scott McTominay in Naples where he will no doubt get more game time.

Update

There's been more news earlier this morning regarding the situation with Garnacho and Napoli. Gianluca Di Marzio has said that 'Napoli's Director met with Alejandro Garnacho's agent today to discuss the possibility of the player. #mufc have asked for £70 million, which is considered too much. They will walk away if they don't reduce their asking price' via The United Stand.

Garnacho who has been a main member of the team in the past season or so for United particularly under Erik ten Hag, has become a little isolated and on the fringes of Ruben Amorim's preferred XI.

The forward has only started five of Amorim's 13 matches at United which is what has generated all of this interest from the likes of Napoli and others.

After being left out of the squad entirely for United's win in the derby, this made many think that perhaps everything was not all sunshine and rainbows between the manager and the player.

However, in the last two matches, Amorim has given Garnacho more of a chance as he came off the bench at Liverpool and got the game equalizing assist for Amad late on. He followed that up with a start at Arsenal and had another assist, this time setting up captain Bruno Fernandes.

These last two matches has perhaps turned the tide a little in that could it be a sign that the manager would like to keep him?

In his pre-match presser for the Arsenal game, Amorim was talking specifically about Kobbie Mainoo and mentioned how he and the club's idea "is to always keep the best players" and also said that he "loves the players, especially the ones that came through the academy."

Garnacho is a player from the academy and one that United could build around for the future.

This quote tells me that there is a chance that Garnacho could stay and play for the Portuguese.

Other than a long future ahead, the forward has displayed the quality but also versatility as a player. He can play out on the left - which is his preferred position - but as we saw against Arsenal, can play on the right and be quite effective as well.

What I believe is the problem with him is that he is still a little too rough around the edges. I know that he's only 20 with a lot of developing to do, but it's not as if he's a teenager playing in his first season in the first team.

He's been around long enough to have smoothed some of those edges. The annoying thing is that it isn't major parts of his game that needs improvement but rather, the small things.

Garnacho can be very head down and selfish, hold onto the ball too long at times, doesn't work as hard off it at other times and in the final third, can lack that proper decision-making.

It's forgiveable if he were to make these small errors every now and then but he does it too often in my opinion.

Nonetheless, the last two games have shown improvement in some of these aspects.

When coming on for 20 minutes at Anfield, he did exactly what I wanted from a winger: get the ball, try to take on the defender, make things happen and if nothing's on, keep it simple.

Or, go down the line and put in a cross.

This is exactly what he did and we scored. Proper wing play.

At Arsenal, he was even better because he was on the right but was still producing as he does on the left. He simplified his game and much like Amad's goal against Liverpool, just played the simple pass to Bruno against Arsenal.

That's all I want from him. Keep it simple is the aim of the game as I sometimes believe he tries to do too much when there's no need for it.

When Dalot was sent off, Amorim decided against the substitution of bringing on Amad for Garnacho who is more adept at playing more defensive than the Argentine. The manager kept him on and Garnacho displayed an ability to do that dirty work which he isn't renowned for.

Another improvement to his game under Amorim.

These last two matches have also shown us that he can do a job off the bench or from the start on top of having that versatility.

I and many others, felt that maybe he is best as that impact sub. Final 20 minutes, come on against a tiring opposition defence, help us get a goal, just like he did last week.

If he can do both the starter and impact sub role then that's even better.

Garnacho also has this ability to just make things happen. It's not something that a lot of players have so to possess such an ability gives him an advantage over others.

It's unteachable.

Do I think he'll work at Napoli though?

Yes, I do. I think it is a slower and weaker league than the Premier League (with all due respect) which always helps any player, young or old. Look at players like Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Scott McTominay and how well they have done in Italy.

Garnacho is far better than those three in terms of quality and is younger besides. If they can do it, why not him?

Conte has also been using a 4-3-3 formation instead of his usual 3-4-3 which helps Garnacho even more.

To play down the flanks in a 3-4-3 system, one needs to work hard going forward and backwards and while Garnacho showed this ability against Arsenal, it's not something that he wants to do nor is it what you want from him because he can be so potent in attack.

Garnacho will fit into Conte's new system and team and will do well in Italy.

But £38m really is taking the piss. I'm not opposed to United selling Garnacho but it has to be a price that is upwards of £70m for me. Only then would I consider it. The fact that this is what United are asking for and will walk away for anything less, is good news in my opinion.

What do you make of Garnacho in general? Do you believe he has a future at United? And what do you make of Napoli's proposal?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
