There's been a lot of talk in the last day about transfers which shouldn't come as a surprise considering we are in the January transfer window.
United are obviously looking to bolster their team although one or two signings wouldn't be enough to strengthen us as much as we would like as we have A LOT of areas to improve.
However, those one or two additions could make some sort of difference and up front is a position where the team could do with improving.
That is where the potential for Kolo Muani comes in.
The Athletic's David Ornstein (so you know that this is legit) dropped some news regarding the Frenchman. He says that all of Spurs, Juventus and United are in for the out-of-favor PSG forward with a loan deal on the cards.
All these clubs are looking at Muani due to his versatility as a forward which could be exactly what these sides (especially United) need in attack.
In this article, The Athletic discuss how Muani was one of two players being considered as the striker in the summer of 2023. The other was Rasmus Hojlund, who ended up being the player the club went for.
Fabrizio Romano says that the 26-year-old French forward is due to leave Paris this month.
This opens the door for him to join United should they go all out for him.
As for the Brazilian duo of Casemiro and Antony, The Times are saying that "The Saudi Pro League has been alerted to the availability of Casemiro, who is willing to leave Manchester United this month."
Plettigoal has said that on Antony, Greek club Olympiacos "have asked for a loan deal with Antony." He adds that while the deal is not completely off, it is a complicated one to do but reiterated that the bench option at United can leave in January.
Zirkzee's future has also been in the limelight a lot recently as the reports yesterday claimed that he was looking to return to Italy and reunite with his former Bologna manager Thiago Motta at Juventus with a potential swap deal for Dusan Vlahovic.
However, this morning's report from David Ornstein says that the Dutchman "intends to stay at Man United this window." Despite there being interest from around the continent and indeed the Premier League, Zirkzee "has no plans to depart", via mufcMPB.
Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic says on Marcus Rashford that Italy seems to be his likeliest destination. AC Milan are the club that are in for him as they are looking for a winger but preferably someone for the right.
"However, it would require a creative solution and subsidy from #mufc as the market for him appears shallow due to his wages, which are too high for nearly all clubs to afford", via The United Stand.
Fabrizio Romano says that Milan are among multiple clubs that are looking at United's number 10 but for a loan in January. "Early stages so far, but movements around MR set to start."
Final Thoughts
Lots to get into.
Kolo Muani is a player that has been linked with United before. As we know he was one of the players discussed for the striker role before the start of last season.
I admittedly, have not watched a lot of him but know that there is a good player in there. What he did at Eintracht Frankfurt was the reason as to why PSG brought him to Paris.
In Germany, Muani netted 23 times and bagged 17 assists in 46 matches for his club in 22/23. His 15 league goals ranked him the joint-third highest scorer that season. He had more goals than the likes of Serge Gnabry, Marcus Thuram and Jamal Musiala with only Christopher Nkunku and Niclas Fullkrug scoring more (16).
Muani has good close control of the ball and an amazing running ability which allows him to be potent in areas with a lot of space and time, similarly to Rashford.
Something that Muani likes to do is beat his opponents by pushing the ball quickly into space, again, similarly to Rashford.
His 17 assists in his final season for Frankfurt means that he is a team player and is more than able to create for his teammates.
Thanks to his speed and ability to beat defenders, Muani goes down the line and more often than not, looks for the square pass or cutback for a teammate arriving late into the box.
This is the versatility that is being spoken about and how United, now that we have two number 10s in Amorim's system, can benefit from a player like Muani. That unselfishness in his play is also what's needed especially from out wide because we know our wingers (other than Amad, although he isn't playing out wide that much these days) can be very individualistic.
With both Mazraoui and Dalot struggling to impact the play going forward from those wider positions as they've still yet to assist a goal since Amorim's arrival, having a Muani who can move out wide and make things happen with add another weapon to the arsenal.
Pulling the defenders out wide with him will create that extra space for those like Amad and Bruno to run into.
The fact that this is a loan means that it will be for free gives United the cheap option but an option that can actually help us given our weakness up front.
He is also 26-years-old and has no injury record so we are good there.
It hasn't worked out for him at PSG which is why he is in this situation despite only signing for the club last season. But Manuel Ugarte was out-of-favor with Luis Enrique as well and left to join United after just a season in Paris. So far, that hasn't worked out too bad.
I don't know much about Muani but he has the potential and given it will be for free and he can give us that versatility in attack, this could be a very good option for United.
He may not be at the level of Gyokeres or Osimhen, but he will definitely improve us as he is probably better than both Hojlund and Zirkzee.
As for Casemiro and Antony, at this point, and I don't mean to be rude, but I do just want them to be moved on. Where they go is their problem but we need to start moving such players on as the manager deems not good enough for his team.
Since Amorim has come in, the pair have played a combined 325 minutes and started just the 4 games in the 12 matches under the new boss.
Their combined wages of £600k-a-week will also do nicely to be off United's books.
I spoke about Zirkzee yesterday so you can read my thoughts there but as for him wanting to stay at United, it is a bit contrary to the reports that we've heard since Sunday and indeed, since he came to United.
Most of his 6 months at the club, the news was that he wanted a return to Italy. Now saying that he wants to stay at United, is a bit confusing.
If he goes, I won't be too upset but if he stays, I won't be too upset. We could do with the numbers in the squad and Zirkzee does have some ability as a footballer but it will be up to him to prove that he is worthy of wearing the United shirt which so far, he hasn't, which is why if he did leave, I wouldn't be too fussed about it.
Rashford to AC Milan wasn't a deal I saw coming, loan or not. They are very similar to United in that they are a fallen giant going through a lot of stuff themselves although they did win the league not so long ago (21/22).
His wages are massive at £300k-a-week so if they can cover that, then perhaps this deal is viable.
But in terms of Rashford the person and brand, Milan is not really the destination I had in mind for him. He suits PSG like a glove.
I suppose that the decision has to come down to him but ultimately, leaving United is the best option for all even though there is a slim chance that he could stay, which I don't see happening simply because Amorim doesn't favor him.
He hasn't played since the 12th of December, nearly a month ago.
What do you think of all these transfers?
