Fabrizio Romano has come out this morning and said that the Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has given the go ahead to join MUFC.
Romano: "Ruben Amorim has given initial green light to Man United. He's keen on joining the club, accepting the project and the terms discussed.
Amorim respects Sporting... and so it depends on club to club negotiation now.
Exit clause for top clubs is around €10m."
This is similar to when a player says they're happy to join the club but it's about the clubs negotiating a price for the transfer.
The fact that he's keen and his exit clause is €10m should indicate that this deal will happen sooner rather than later. Despite the talk that he would prefer a move at the end of the season rather than in the middle, it looks set that he will become the new United boss at some point in the near future.
INEOS aren't wasting any time as just hours after sacking Erik ten Hag reports came out that Amorim was already lined up as his replacement.
This suggests to me that they knew exactly who they wanted to take charge post ten Hag and could explain why INEOS didn't pull the trigger on the Dutchman earlier. Maybe they didn't have that replacement sewn up resulting in Erik ten Hag remaining at the club post the FA Cup final when it seemed for all the money that he would be gone.
While it's not confirmed that Amorim will become the new United boss, knowing that he's happy to join and his exit clause isn't anything ridiculous, tells me that we should be seeing him in the dugout relatively soon.
This deal is moving fast.
I kind of like it.
