A new era at Man Utd

Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim as head coach.

I don't think they got the memo because we've known this for a while. But anyway.

United statement:

"He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November."

They also say that he is subject to a work visa before he can officially take over.

Final Thoughts

That's it then. Quick and fast United have moved on from Erik ten Hag. Just a week ago, we were all frustrated with another decent-ish draw against Jose and now, we're here. One week on, no mo ten Hag, Ruud scores 5 and Amorim will be in the hot seat.

One week.

I must be honest, I'm not overly excited about this appointment and not because I don't think Amorim is a good coach but more because I've seen this movie before. We all have.

I feel that this is the same as when we appointed ten Hag. When you look at the manager profiles, they're kind of the same. Amorim is just younger and Portuguese.

Hopefully his time at the club doesn't go like his now predecessor. We need some bloody change!

It does kind of suck that he won't take over straight away because I would've liked to have seen him come in asap.

Signing a 2-and-a-half year deal is the in thing now with managers. That's the amount of time most of them stay at their clubs and is around the average time United managers remain at the helm before the inevitable sack.

Will Amorim suffer the same fate as so many before him?

While admittedly, all of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag may have had their faults, not all of them were shite. All of them couldn't have been the problem.

This is why I feel not too ecstatic about Amorim coming in and why I feel that there is a culture problem at the club that needs resetting. Hopefully Amorim along with INEOS will be the people who change this.

And that's what gives me a bit more confidence and hope for potential change: this is a completely new era.

INEOS have only started their tenure at the club and while Erik ten Hag was just sacked, he was still part of the old regime with Woodward, Arnold and co.

I've always felt that they didn't like ten Hag and wanted their own man. INEOS have now got him and commences that entirely new era. We just need to rid ourselves of more players who aren't good enough nor have the mentality.

Amorim's style is very modern and high octane that requires a specific type of player for each role. Not all our players can play in his system so they will need to be moved on.

Beyond system and tactics, the work rate required is ridiculous and you know how little our players work.

Amorim will have to come in and assess the squad and decide which of these players suit his style and who doesn't. This is another reason as to why I would've liked him to join now giving him more time to take a look at everything at United.

What does this mean for Ruud and the other staff left?

From his presser van Nistelrooy obviously wants to stay to some capacity although highlighted that he is contracted to the club for this season and next. Maybe that's his way of saying keep me here because my contract says so or pay me off?

We know that part of the deal to bring in Amorim was that his staff would join him. This probably means that it's time to hit the road for the other coaches at Old Trafford. Perhaps Amorim would like to keep someone like Ruud considering his history with the club and knowledge of the current crop of players.

Whatever happens happens I suppose.

I must commend INEOS though, on how quickly they got this deal done. They must have known that Amorim was their guy and were just waiting for him to accept their terms. ten Hag's continuous failures on the pitch just made INEOS' decision to get rid of him and bring their own man in much easier, if this was the case.

Getting him from a club that's doing well and in the Champions League makes this deal even greater. In the past, United would look at who was available rather than just take whoever they wanted.

While it's not quite Don Carlo out of Madrid, this is still a statement by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team.

Well done👏.

Welcome Ruben Amorim to Manchester United. Please bring us back 😩.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
