Ruben Amorim wants a left-back

And a striker

And probably new players in a whole host of other positions.

Last week, we had the news that United were linked with Alphonso Davies and Milos Kerkez for that left-back position.

Today, we've received more news that the new MUFC manager is on the hunt for a left-back.

On his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano says that Amorim would like a player at LB: "We need a left-back in 2025" was the message from Amorim to the United board according to Romano. The Italian also says that deals for a left-back could be done in January or in the summer depending on the opportunities. Factors such as price will be considered, via UtdFaithfuls.

Plettigoal mentions Davies once again as an option for United along with AC Milan's Theo Hernandez as he is being 'closely monitored.' Davies will become a free agent at the end of the season while Hernandez's contract expires in 2026.

Florian Plettenberg also talks about United being linked with Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface. He is "one of many strikers on MUFC's shortlist." However, the chances of bringing him to Old Trafford would be very expensive and would only be considered in the summer.

Plettigoal says that United "are actively scouting the striker market" and that if they cannot sign one in January, "they plan to secure one by the summer at the latest."

Boniface is only 23-years-old and has a contract that expires in June 2028. The striker has 8 goals and 1 assist this season but is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Final Thoughts

None of these names gets me hard. None of them would make me think 'holy shit, we just got HIM?!' But in saying that, all of Davies, Hernandez and Boniface are really good players and would definitely improve our team.

The likes of Davies and Hernandez in particular are very experienced having been around for a long time but with Boniface, he's a player who understands the 3-4-3 system having played in it so well for Xabi Alonso.

All of these profile of players make sense given their quality, age, experience and ability to play in Amorim's formation.

We know that down the left, we have a problem because while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can do a job there, they aren't actually left-backs or in this case, left wing-backs. Neither of them aren't particularly good on their left foot as well.

Rashford and Garnacho also have their issues as their work rate is simply not up to the standard required. Their defensive capabilities are also seriously poor. That probably rules them out as well unless they can improve defensively and in work rate.

With Luke Shaw being unreliable and Tyrell Malacia being unknown both in terms of quality and reliability, left-back is certainly a position where United need to look into.

This would probably mean the end of one or both Shaw and Malacia's time at the club should a new left-back arrive.

I do find that Davies suits exactly what Amorim would need as a left wing-back but Hernandez wouldn't be a bad shout either.

As for Boniface, I feel that what we need is a proven goal scorer. I am hoping that Hojlund can be that guy under Amorim but that remains to be seen. Boniface ticks a lot of boxes but is he that out-and-out goal scorer that will guarantee you 20+ goals a season?

Perhaps, but we don't need a 'perhaps' striker, we need a 'definitely' striker.

I think we are beyond the point of risks especially up top because we know how much we struggle in front of goal and while the team doesn't really create for the striker making it redundant who it is, there's just more of a chance that something could happen if you had a Robert Lewandowski or Harry Kane up front.

I feel that with Boniface we will need to give him time before we start to see him pump in the goals.

What could this mean for the likes of Hojlund and Zirkzee? The pair just joined the club and are both quite young at 21 and 23-years-old so could a new striker spell the end of their careers at United? It would be a little strange to have three centre-forwards so perhaps someone will have to leave.

Rumors (whether true or not) have been circulating that Zirkzee could be on the move from United whether on loan or permanently considering his troubles at Old Trafford so far. Maybe this paves way for that new centre-forward to come in?

Regardless of who we get (if we get anyone) it's clear to see that Amorim already knows what he needs to improve the side.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
