Ruud as connector?

The players seem to want it

Who cares what the players want? I'm at a point now when I see or hear things like this, I almost want the club to do the opposite.

This isn't because I don't like Ruud as I personally wouldn't mind him staying as this connector but I don't trust these players. I don't want them to be the decider when it comes to major decisions like these.

Sky Sports have reported that "there is a swell of support to keep the 48-year-old at Carrington in some capacity after his period as interim manager ends."

They add that Ruud is "esteemed by United's leadership group for the way he carries himself, along with all the staff that serve first-team operations."

From Ruben Amorim's recent comments after officially becoming United manager, he revealed that one of the conditions for him to take the job was if he could bring his backroom staff with him. This caused a lot of talk about what United will do with Ruud and the other coaches brought in this season to help Erik ten Hag.

However, Sky are saying that there are "no concrete decisions" when it comes to the make up of Amorim's backroom staff yet, although he does want to bring in five of his coaches with him.

We know that van Nistelrooy has also said that he would like to stay and help the club in whatever capacity even mentioning he still has a contract as assistant for this season and next.

Ruud also said that "he would love to speak to Amorim" at some point as well as shown support towards the incoming manager.

This is probably another way for Ruud to try and keep his job even under Amorim as buttering him up like this may sway the Portuguese into retaining the Dutchman.

Sky have also stated that first-team coach and ex-Red Darren Fletcher is another member of the current staff that the players would like to see remain at the club. "There is also a strong desire for Darren Fletcher."

Strong desire, sounds a little frisky if you ask me. 'I've a strong desire for you 😏.'

Anyway, they continue to say "he [Fletcher] has been a great link between the academy and senior side, having taken that same journey as a United player - making over 300 appearances and winning 13 trophies in 20 years."

I mean, this is just the players saying they want to keep the coaches who also happened to play for the club. What about Rene Hake? Andreas Georgson? Jelle ten Rouwelaar?

Nothing on them.

I just feel we need to move away from giving players this type of power. I feel as though this is still a 'player power' sort of thing. To have them want coaches to stay really isn't a decision for them to make. It is more on the board and incoming manager.

I don't know why but we appear to be the only club who does this: sack a manager and then tell the new one to work with his coaches. It makes more sense for the new coach to bring in his own staff as they already know what he wants and how to execute his plans.

Having to explain it to another manager will take time and trying to get him to get it across to the players will take even longer.

But if Amorim wants to keep them, keep them. If not, move them on. Simple.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
