Redundancies, team news and trying their best

Man Utd host Ipswich at Old Trafford tomorrow night in what is becoming an increasingly pressured season domestically for the Red Devils.

No victory in three league outings has Ruben Amorim struggling on the field whilst there is much turmoil off it.

Amorim's team news isn't anything to get excited about as he says that there will be no returns for tomorrow: "I think it's the same [the squad]."

With another round of redundancies at the club, the United manager says that all problems at the club have to be addressed and that one way to sort these issues out is to be better on the field. "One important piece is how we got into this situation. It has a lot to do with the lack of success of the team."

United's home form has been terrible this season as they sit 14th in the home table. He says that since he came to the club, the expectation was to win all home games but that "I don't feel the pressure, the supporters are amazing and every time you go to one game at Old Trafford you feel the support until the end." Every game is a new opportunity and is a chance to move forward.

The Portuguese also added that there was a lack of intensity in his side's play at Everton resulting in pressing-related issues. Amorim has to think of solutions at the moment as it's already difficult to win games given the current state of the club. "We know this year was really hard for everybody and we did as a club a lot of changes."

He adds that it's easier for fans to "feel the changes" when the team isn't performing on the field. The 40-year-old wants the club to fight against the feelings in this difficult period. "We are trying our best in this moment."

Final Thoughts

Not sure whether this team news means no Mazraoui because he was taken off injured on 70 minutes at Goodison Park. We should be ok in defense even without the Moroccan but that would mean another injury to add the list.

Yes, what we do on the field is the ultimate judgement when it comes to a football club but when the club has been run into the ground like ours, the chances are that we won't perform well on the pitch. The two work in tandem.

Poor recruitment over the years has led to what we've seen on the field in that the performances aren't anywhere near the level of United and the players are certainly not what we need to get back to the top.

The club then having to make all these cuts is a result of all of this wasteful spending as well as the debt and Glazers taking money out whilst not putting money in.

So while I do agree with the manager that what we do on the field can help improve things at the club, it most definitely isn't the only area that needs serious improvement.

Amorim (and any other coach for that matter) had/have the duty of playing good football and winning games. They can only do that with what they have in terms of players and clearly, this lot isn't good enough for United. This is where the club have to back him and sign who he wants and remove those he doesn't which could also save us a lot of money as well as potentially bring in some fees for those they sell. This could reduce the redundancies to zero as when looking at the wages of our players, that is more than enough to keep these good people in their jobs.

The fans will always support the team and always back the players whenever they step out onto the pitch because we all love this club and want to win but this form and all the issues off the field are truly testing the supporters' patience like never before.

We also know that it isn't the manager's fault even if Amorim could be doing better. He has just come in and almost all these players aren't his. They have been here a long time and have never shown the quality required to get us back to the top, which I believe can happen with a manager like Amorim. He needs the players though.

The intensity, energy, desire and determination were all things that were lacking at Everton and have been lacking in several games this season, with and without Amorim. It's also not only in the press where there is no intensity but in our play overall.

This always causes me to come back to what the manager said in his early days at Old Trafford regarding Rashford. When the forward wasn't playing as much, he said that for him to get back in the side, "he has to want it."

This is something that can be said of the entire squad as at the moment (and most of the season) they don't want it enough.

When he talks about solutions, I don't think it's about a style or formation change as everyone seems to want but again, it's rather how much do the players want it. We saw at Liverpool that when they do show signs of life and do give a shit, we aren't a bad football team. This was the same set of players playing the same style and same formation as they are now yet in that match, they showed more fight and desire than in any match put together since, other than the Arsenal game.

It can be done.

The fans and every other football watcher isn't blind as it is very easy to see how poor we are on the field even if the club was run properly.

It is just much too shit to not notice.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
