The new man at Old Trafford spoke to the press (which included 50 reporters!) for the first time ahead of his first game in charge of the club on Sunday at Ipswich.

He had a lot to say but one of the more interesting quotes was what he said regarding his style of play.

Amorim said that “If you want to speak about the way we play, we lose the ball too often, so we need to keep the ball better. We need to be better running back and I think that’s clear for everybody [smiles]. We have to be clear in the small details.”

He also talked about what needed to improve saying that the "physical aspect" needs to be better.

"I'm a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself and I believe in the club, I think we have the same idea, the same mindset and that can help. I truly believe in the players also."

He wants the team to "improve in a lot of areas" and that at United, "you have to win games."

Amorim believes fully in his way of playing and that the players will too. "We'll adapt some players. Maybe on you'll see starting 11 and not feel change but you'll see it in positioning."

"I know you guys don't believe in these players but I do - you guys think it's not possible, I think it's possible. I believe in them, they are open to different things, hard work and they have to & until they prove me wrong I believe in them."

Amorim mentioned how he spoke to Jose Mourinho who sent him a message once he got the job: "He said Man United is a big club, with lovely people. It still is”.

“That is correct”.

The 39-year-old "believes I am the right guy in the right moment. I truly believe I am the right guy for this job."

Final Thoughts

First of all, it's pretty weird to not see Erik ten Hag doing the presser. No more 'clear, huh's' that which we became used to for so many years.

Anyway, I've said that Amorim speaks the English language pretty well which allows him to communicate a lot better than his predecessor. That hold on English was evident again as Amorim delivered some pretty great comments.

I like the fact that he said we lose the ball too often. He's only been training the team for a couple of days yet he can already see that. It's a problem we've had for a while and not only do we lose it too often, we often lose it quite quickly.

This isn't something that Amorim enjoys when watching his teams play. At Sporting this season, they averaged 60% possession under the Portuguese, which is one of the highest in Europe.

Saying that we need to run back and work harder is something else that is good to hear. For a long time, we know that our players don't work anywhere near as hard as they should which leaves us exposed allowing for oppositions to have easy chances at goal.

That work rate is nowhere near good enough and is something that needs to be addressed immediately.

Mentioning that he believes in his way of playing is good for me as well because this suggests that he will stick to his 3-4-3 formation no matter what.

I love it when a manager does this. I don't want him adapting and changing to suit his players. In fact, Amorim said that he'll have to adapt some players to get them to play his style.

Again, music to my ears because it's about time that the players were just that, players. We don't need them to start trying to coach the team or be anything more than what they are.

I found it interesting that he said to the press that he knows they don't believe in the current group of players. Whether the journalists do or don't, one thing's for certain is that we don't trust them.

We don't know what we're like to get whenever they step out onto the pitch. I hope Amorim has seen this before with the players because they can turn things on and off just like that.

The belief he has in himself is admirable and is something that he should have otherwise what's the point in appointing him?

Every manager needs to have a bit of an ego and arrogance to them and believe that they can turn things around. There's no real evidence to suggest that this will happen with Amorim because on the face of it, he is very similar to Erik ten Hag in terms of their managerial profiles and given the past decade of failures.

But the major differences is that Amorim keeps mentioning how he will stick to his principles and would try to make the players adapt to his style rather than him to them. ten Hag did the opposite and was something that I really didn't like.

And he has INEOS behind him rather than just the Glazers. They will want him to be as successful as possible and as quickly as possible considering that Amorim is their guy. They won't want him to fail and for them to look like mugs.

Whatever happens with Amorim at United, it will be done his way.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
