Would you take Dani Olmo at United?

Uh, YES!

That would be most people's answer to that question. Only fools would say otherwise.

But are United those fools? We know that we can be when it comes to transfers however with INEOS, while they may not be everyone's cup of tea at the moment, one cannot deny that when it comes to signings, they are pretty good.

The deals for Yoro to come to United when it looked like he was headed to Madrid and the double-swoop of Mazraoui and De Ligt from Bayern for a combined Β£60m were tremendous deals so whether it's competition or getting a good price, there is a chance with the new board.

What makes things easier in terms of this potential Olmo transfer is that he is now a free agent. With Barcelona's appeal to register the Spaniard for the second part of the La Liga campaign, the 26-year-old is now on the market to go where he will for free.

What makes things harder is that as he is a good player that can leave for nothing, he will attract a lot of interest from other big clubs. City for one have been mentioned alongside United.

Not sure why Olmo would want to come to Manchester considering both clubs playing like teams fighting relegation but still, there is a chance.

However, the player himself seemingly confirmed that he would like to stay at Barca as he posted "It's 2025 time πŸ’™β€ " on social media. This will perhaps makes this potential signing a little more difficult as it can be tough to get a player out of a club that they do not want to leave but that decision won't be up to him after the failure to register him for the rest of this season.

Player Profile

‍

Olmo is at a good age (26) and one that fits the age-range of INEOS as when looking at the five signings they made in the summer, all of them were between the ages of 18-26. This age means that the Euro 2024 winner is entering the prime years of his career, is perfect for what we need at the moment and can be a player for the future.

Olmo is a very versatile player able to feature in all of the forward positions with his specialty being as a CAM or on the left-wing, two positions that United could do with.

His ability to play in tight areas and still manage to keep the ball or make something happen is not a skill we have with many of our players. When receiving the ball in tight areas, he is calm under pressure and knows exactly what to do next once he gets the ball.

‍

Because of his quality, he can attract a lot of opposition players but due to his capability of being able to play around or through this press, it can leave his teammates in space allowing for them to cause damage should they get the ball.

Olmo is strong on the half-turn and can both create for himself as well as for his teammates, something else that not a lot of our players do as most of the current United squad (in an attacking sense) are very selfish. That doesn't work in a Ruben Amorim system.

‍

When it comes to finding space, he is pretty good at that as well. This is a skill that not many players possess and allows that player to have that freedom and time to do things that most others wouldn't be able to because of poor positioning. Other times, he maintains a stationary position in order to give him that extra yard he needs.

As a dribbler and driver of the ball, Olmo is more than capable of traveling in possession across good distances all over the pitch. He is very comfortable with the ball at his feet both when receiving and running with it.

At around 6ft, Olmo is also a bit of a threat in the air which is something else that United lack in their squad: height. Only the likes of De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro, Casemiro, Hojlund and Zirkzee are tall. These are also players who don't often feature at the same time. Olmo could come in handy from those crosses we struggle with.

‍

Can he fit into Amorim's 3-4-3 though?

I think he is a player who is quite adaptable and Amorim is a manager who will know how to adjust the player to get him to work in his system. Olmo also played in a 3 at the back formation for a couple of seasons during his time at RB Leipzig making him familiar with this setup allowing him to perhaps embed into this formation relatively quickly.

In terms of his attributes, Olmo ticks all the boxes. His play style is exactly what we need in this team as he can create, score and play in a variety of positions up front. The attacking midfielder is also very hard working which is another feather in his cap.

‍

He does have a bit of an injury history though. While it's nothing like Luke Shaw, the 26-year-old can miss up to 10-20 games at a time thanks to knocks, niggles and muscle injuries. He missed 8 games for club and country this season already.

Do we want to risk bringing in another player we might have to confine to the sidelines at times?

‍

In 15 matches this season for Barcelona, Olmo has 6 goals and 1 assist which isn't a bad return at all. Throughout his career, he has always chipped in with a decent number of goals and assists even if those numbers aren't prolific.

‍

Final Thoughts

This is a player that I've liked since his Leipzig days. I don't actually know how he stayed there for so long because he should've moved to a better club a lot earlier with all due respect.

Whenever I watched him, he always seemed to be involved in the game mainly in an attacking sense and always seemed to do something.

All his attributes make him a fine player and if not for Lamine Yamal, Olmo would've been Spain's best player at Euro 2024.

‍

He is a top player and I would be more than happy for him to join United. We're crying out for another creator and someone who is more a team player. The fact that he can play a number of forward positions will allow Amorim to use him across the front line.

Olmo would also cost United nothing as he is a free agent at the moment with only his wages being something the club will have to cover. The Spaniard is on €180k-a-week (Β£150k) at Barca which is more than doable for United especially considering the wages we pay for some of our players.

Olmo to United would be a good fit in my opinion. Would you like to see him at Old Trafford?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
