Amorim's United are unbeaten in Europe this season after what was a routine win for his side in a match that could've been a potential banana skin as his side overcame FCSB in the final league match of the Europa League.
A second half performance of creativity and clinical finishing saw United get the job done in Bucharest and qualify straight into the round of 16.
What the manager will be happy with is that there are more positives to take away from this win compared to that which we saw at Fulham last Sunday.
1. First time ball
This is not something we do often enough and was one of the more annoying things from our performance last night particularly in the first half, and particularly from Malacia.
Whenever we have the opportunity, for some reason, we decide to hold onto the ball for that little bit longer than needed which ends up killing the chance. That split second makes all the difference as it allows defenders to get back into position and oppositions to get back into shape.
We actually sometimes work the ball really well but thanks to dawdling in possession or cutting in or slowing things down, what looked to be a good situation for us disappears and we're all left frustrated.
Malacia down the left was one such player as many times he had the chance to whip in a cross but instead took too many extra touches and the chance went a begging.
Strikers also prefer the first time cross because the defenders are unsettled giving them more of an opportunity to score. We often see Hojlund and Zirkzee throw their arms up in annoyance that the pass didn't come to them when it was on.
I also find that Bruno does the opposite in that he'll look to play it first time when he shouldn't, or hold onto to it too long when the pass was on first time. These type of decisions really hold us back in that final third.
The couple of times we did play it first time, we were in. The two goals came from these circumstances as for the opener, there was good interplay down the right before the ball came to Mainoo who played the first time cross. Dalot then slotted it into an empty net.
The second saw good, quick play between Mainoo and Garnacho as the pair passed and moved the ball quite quickly and with their first touch. Garnacho then plays the simple cut back and Mainoo scores the second.
I can't understand why we don't see players play it one time when the chance is there. We see what happens when they do.
2. Martinez is a pass master
I spoke about his importance to the team not so long ago but it's becoming even more evident as the games go on.
What Martinez has in his amazing ability on the ball is not something we see with many other players in the squad, even Bruno, our most creative player, doesn't have that passing capability like the butcher.
The defender can play the pass over the top or through the lines with the latter being especially important even more so when playing against oppositions that like to keep things tight, like FCSB.
It's hard to find spaces in these game so to have a player who can make these defence-splitting passes makes things a lot easier. It cuts through oppositions, takes some of their players out the game and also gets us going in attack.
He must have played four or five of these passes with us having a goal scoring opportunity with almost all of them. Mainoo's first two chances in the first half came because of these balls and Hojlund also should've done better from a header after a great cross by Martinez.
To have someone who can do this from a deeper position or whenever he steps into midfield is key as we do look to build from the back and with oppositions usually pressing high, should he manage to get the pass through, a lot of their players are caught out of position allowing those ahead to have more freedom to do what they will.
Martinez was our most creative player thanks to these passes and he also made us favor that left flank more than the right. Adding someone like Dorgu to this will make us even better.
Not only is Martinez a threat up front, he is making things happen from deep.
He is key to how Amorim wants his team to play from those deeper positions.
3. Mainoo as CAM
This is a position that many wanted to see him play in. It has come about because we've seen some from average performances from the young man this season with a lot of people saying that perhaps it had to do with a formation change with the new manager, playing too much football or that maybe he is playing in the wrong position.
Amorim pushed Mainoo further forward towards the latter stages of the win over Fulham and was the first time we saw him play in an advanced role. He looked good there despite it only being for a short while.
Against FCSB though, he started and played the whole game as one of the CAMs and played brilliantly throughout the game. He looked to be like his former self again.

The manager after the win said that Mainoo "was so free playing the ball near the box." And he absolutely looked like it too.
The 19-year-old has been struggling with his defensive duties playing deeper, which is also something that Amorim mentioned post-match, and this has meant that Ugarte has had to cover a lot of ground. He then becomes overwhelmed and in the end, we get passed through in midfield quite easily.
But with the abilities Mainoo possesses, he does appear to be one who is much more at ease in the final third. He has quick feet and can play quite comfortably in tight spaces often going past a couple of players en route to making something happen.
He was a constant threat all game as he had two good chances in the first half one of which he should've scored from as it was very similar to his goal. But what this showed was that he can get forward and be an extra player in our attack giving us more of a threat in and around the box.
The calmness and composure to his game is something that not many others in the squad have. This makes him even better in that final third as we saw with his goal and assist.
A man of the match from one of our star boys 👌.
"It's a lot more freedom. I felt comfortable up there. I enjoyed it" - Mainoo on playing as a number 10.
4. Garnacho is improving
Onto the other star boy now and this is something that we've been hearing a lot from the manager in recent weeks.
After being completed omitted from the matchday squad for the derby, many felt that this was a sign that perhaps it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows between him and Amorim who had already been leaving him on the bench a lot when he arrived.
I think we all thought that this was maybe the point where we start to maybe shift Garnacho out the door.
Since then though, we've seen a different Garnacho as a lot of us felt that his major issue was finding a place in Amorim's 3-4-3 system as he was so used to playing as a wide forward in a 4-2-3-1. If he wanted to play out wide in a 3-4-3 it meant having to do a lot of defensive work as well which isn't something that Garnacho wants to do.
The next best option was to try him as a CAM and over the past month, that is where he's been playing majority of the time. We have seen him on either the left or the right but as we know with Garnacho, he does prefer the left.
Amorim slowly started to bring him back into the team with substitute appearances with that cameo against Liverpool being a sign that maybe he could work in this system and as a CAM.
He backed that up with a great performance against Arsenal, a game in which he started and on the right, and a match where he got an assist and did a lot of defensive work after Dalot's sending off.
These were signs of improvement with the 20-year-old.
After that display, he's been starting a lot more but on the left of the two CAMs and we're starting to see that maybe there is a place for him in this team. As a CAM, he also doesn't have to do as much defending as he usually would on the right allowing him to focus more on his attacking side of the game.
That is something we need in the final third because we can sometimes appear to be out of ideas if Bruno is having a bad game and Amad has been marked out of it as they are our two most creative players. Garnacho not only gives us this extra attacking option but as he has this uncanny ability to just be able to make things happen out of nothing, he also attracts defenders to him which frees up spaces for the others.
What I've also noticed about Garnacho is that he is simplifying his game as he doesn't look to cut in and shoot as much anymore nor does he keep his head down and not look for the pass. That selfishness has been removed (to an extent) and he does go down the line a lot more and even crosses with his left-foot which isn't something that he used to do much before as he was very right-footed. This gives him something more to his game making the star boy even harder to play against.
From going to 'perhaps his time is up at United' when Amorim first came in to 'we cannot let him go and we can see the improvements' in just a couple of months, shows the character of Garnacho to come back stronger and better to display this type of improvement and adaptability to his game.
5. The second half team
I felt that this team was pretty interesting as I believe that it was one of our better, stronger and more balanced XIs that we've seen under Amorim.
Mazraoui looks better as a RCB than a RWB and he, De Ligt and Martinez were the orinigial trio in defence when Amorim took over. They did a good job last night as they did at the beginning of the manager's tenure.
Bruno playing deeper looks to be more disciplined and composed compared to his usual chaotic style when playing further forward. Eriksen has that calmness in possession that we sometimes lack and can also pick a pass in attack.
Dalot was actually going forward for once resulting in that goal but it gave us something down that left flank which was our preferred side throughout the game and with Amad on the right, we also saw some threat in the final third from him.
Garnacho always causes problems which he did again and as we know, Mainoo looked brilliant as a CAM. If we can sort out the striker issue, this is a team I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of.
Yes I would like to see Ugarte back as CDM for Eriksen and Maguire come in as one of the defenders although like I said, Mazraoui looks good next to De Ligt however, the Moroccan could come in for Dalot on the left as he has been the better of the two full-backs on either side.
But this second half team was a lot more attacking as we didn't play with a back five as that became a back three with Dalot moving forward a lot and Amad down the right. We've seen too many of the recent XIs being very defensive resulting in these boring, lackluster performances that put you to sleep.
With more attackers, we have the chance of seeing something similar to that second 45 more often which is something we can all get behind.
