Man Utd travel to the impressive Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon for match 34 of the Premier League. Amorim has a lot to think about ahead of this game in terms of team news as next Thursday's first leg of the semifinal against Bilbao will definitely be on his mind.
However, some negative team news means that his selection headache has just gotten a lot worse.
Bit of breaking team news as we don't hear this often as Ruben Amorim confirms that Dalot has a calf problem that will rule him out for the upcoming games and potentially the rest of the season! He does also give us some positive updates in that both Amad and De Ligt are close to returning but that Heaven is not ready.
Amorim says that he has an idea of what needs to be done in order to bring in new signings early in the transfer window but would rather discuss it at the end of the season. One of those potential signings is Matheus Cunha to which the United boss said "I will not say anything about Matheus because if I say one time, I will have to say it about any situation that is yes or no."
He adds that a lot of players want to play for Man Utd because it's Man Utd. "That's what I feel. Everyone wants to play for Man Utd."
Amorim says that any player can change his mind even at this late stage of the season with Casemiro being a prime example. "He's playing all the time. I'm not that kind of coach, they can change my mind."
The United boss still believes in his underperforming striker Hojlund as he says that the team and everyone is trying to help the Dane but that sometimes in trying so hard, "he makes it worse."
The Portuguese confirmed that players on loan will return to United and a decision on their futures will be made at the end of the season. He added that when these loanees perform, "That is good for us."
Whether they win or not, Amorim wants his team to keep a high standard. "Our idea is really clear."
Final Thoughts
Incredible that Dalot is injured and can be out for the season. This is not something that we're used to as despite what you think about his footballing ability, one cannot deny his availibility as he is ever-present and plays almost every minute of every game. Perhaps that's the reason why he's now out?
To not have another player for the rest of the season is such a big blow because we are already at the bear bones. And did you notice how every time players come back, someone goes out?
We could've also done with De Ligt, Heaven and Amad being back now as they would be such a boost.
We do need to know what we want to do for next season. They should have a plan for with and without Champions League because while yes, I do agree to a certain extent that players will still join United because of who we are, it will be a bit of a turnoff if we aren't in Europe at all.
The earlier we get business done, the better so then Amorim can start to integrate them into the team sooner rather than later.
The loan players are performing quite well and that is definitely a good thing. This would mean that we can potentially get some money for them rather than have to keep them at United for at least another season. Rashford and Antony both appear happier at Villa and Betis and it would be best for all parties if they were sold.
